What is Thinkspotting?

Thinkspotting is competitive mini-blogging for ideas. Every idea has it's conception, revision, promotion and then realization. Thinkspotting was created to help people carry an idea through the 4 steps of this natural progression.

Conceive Revise Promote Materialize

Users can submit ideas, revise those and other ideas, promote ideas they like, and submit sightings of ideas they've seen come to life. What makes Thinkspotting different from other mini-blogging sites is that users can compete to produce the best blog for a certain topic.

This can be done by submitting a revised version of any idea submitted in order to produce a better solution for the problem the idea is addressing. Other users can then vote for the version they like best. The revision with the most votes is then featured on the main page of the idea.

How can I submit an idea of my own?

You need to be a member to submit ideas and vote. Signing up takes only a few seconds. You don't even need to verify your email address!

How are ideas revised?

You can revise any idea on the site by clicking on the 'Submit a revision' link in the side bar of any idea page. You can then edit the idea and submit it to the 'Revisions Tab' of the idea. There it will compete to be the 'Top Revision'. If it holds the most votes, your revision will be displayed on the 'Top Revision' tab.

The revision feature is still new and has a few bugs. The first known bug is that you can only vote for a revision on the 'Revisions' tab of an idea. Also the page will reload once you hit the 'Vote it' button. There may be a few more that are unknown. Let us know if you find anything.

How are ideas promoted?

The first way ideas are promoted is with votes. Enough votes will put an idea on the homepage where it will get the most attention.

Another way to promote an idea is with the 'Embedding Code' that can be found next to any idea. Just copy and paste the code anywhere on the internet that you want as long as HTML is allowed. Doing this will display a badge promoting the idea so that others can read and vote for the idea.

You can also promote an idea by sending it to a friend with the 'Email this entry' box next to every idea. Entering in an email address will send a link to that address giving your friends a chance to read the idea.

Lastly, just like the olden days, you can promote ideas by just bringing them up in coversation with your friends.

What are sightings?

Sightings let you report any ideas you've seen come to life. You can submit a sighting by clicking the 'Submit a sighting' link while viewing any idea. Then you can write about what you saw, submit a link if it can be seen online, and even submit a picture to go along with it. Users can then vote on your sighting. Voting helps sort out the best sightings.

How does an idea become a 'Top Idea'?

Currently the 'Top Idea' page is set up so that any idea that has enough votes will be places on that page. Because we only have a few ideas so far, the minimum amount of votes required to get an idea on the homepage is very low.

How can I revisit ideas I've already voted for?

Any idea you've voted, submitted, or viewed can easily be revisited from the 'Activity' tab (located in your Profile). You can also view any other user's activity by viewing the 'Activity' tab in their profile.

What is the Wish List?

The Wish List (located in your Profile) is a feature that allows you to submit keywords that interest you. From then on if anything is submitted containing any of the keywords you provided you will find it on your Wish List. You can also be notified by e-mail of anything found.

How can I add a member to my friends tab?

You can add a user to your friends list, while viewing their profile, clicking the 'Add Friend' button. That member will automatically be added to your friends list and an email will be sent to that member asking if they would like to add you to their friends list. Once added to your friends list you can easily track your friends new ideas.s

How can I make a suggestion for Thinkspotting?

All you have to do is submit an idea like you would any other. Just submit an idea to the '209.200.248.168 ideas' category. It can then be reviewed and expanded by other users.

How can I use Google Adsense to earn from my ideas/revisions/sightings that I submit?

Any member who has a Google Adsense account can provide their account number. Once your account has been added your ads will share ad space with our current ads. To add your account number just go to the 'Settings' tab of your 'Profile' and fill out the section called 'Karma'. Also please make sure to familiarize yourself with the Program Policies provided by Google. Read more here

When will stickers be available?

Because there is a minimum for the amount of stickers needed when ordering stickers from the sticker company we work with, we'll have to wait until we have enough users. You can help speed up this process by telling your friends about the site or better yet tell them about ideas you've read on the site.
